Dermal Fillers in Sydney

Dermal Fillers in Sydney With Dr Ellis Choy

Injectable fillers are a cosmetic treatment with a huge range of applications. Dermal fillers can soften wrinkles and scars, add or restore volume in the lips, contour the cheeks or jawline, and more. This is particularly the case when dermal filler procedures are performed by a highly qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeon such as Dr Ellis Choy.

The range of dermal filler products has also increased significantly, offering patients more options than ever before.

A candidate for dermal fillers

As we age, our skin becomes less elastic and unable to ‘bounce back’ to its original smooth condition. Sun damage and lifestyle choices also take their toll. Over time, diminishing facial fatty deposits, lack of moisture absorption and a decrease in muscle tone will lead to lines, wrinkles and sagging.

Some of the latest dermal fillers are formulated with a carbohydrate that is naturally present in our skin. This substance diminishes in our skin with ageing, leading to decreased moisture and elasticity. Fillers containing this substance help to counteract these changes while providing immediate (but temporary) volume.

Newer versions of these fillers have the advantage of lasting longer than their predecessors, sometimes up to a year or two.

What can be achieved with dermal fillers?

Fillers are used to slow apparent ageing, remove lines, diminish scarring, plump lips and more.

  • Facial re-contouring: Volumising and rejuvenating the face. Rebalancing facial contours.
  • Fine lines and wrinkles: Minimising crow’s feet, frown lines, forehead lines and lip lines
  • Lips: Increasing lip size, enhancing lip shape, defining lip borders and smoothing lip lines

Due to his expertise in cosmetic and plastic surgery, Dr Choy is among those qualified to administer dermal fillers under the eyes. This is one area where only a highly proficient practitioner should be consulted, as the filler is administered a little deeper and closer to the eyes and tear ducts, and there are more risks associated with this.

Are there side effects of dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are minimally invasive, with injections being made just under the top layer of skin. There may be temporary discomfort that can include some swelling or bruising. If this occurs, it typically subsides within a couple of days. It has also been shown that limiting exercise immediately prior to treatment can assist the recovery from the procedure. Anti-inflammatories and aspirin should be avoided for a couple of weeks prior to treatment to minimise bruising.

Some patients may suffer an allergic reaction to dermal filler products. In this event, the filler can be negated by using a filler breakdown product.

In your consultation in Sydney with Dr Choy, he will discuss any questions or concerns you may have about the risks and complications of dermal fillers.
