According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation was the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure performed in 2014. Women from all walks of life choose implants to add volume and create an attractive breast shape, but not all implants are created equal.

Though breast augmentation remains the most common cosmetic procedure performed on patients, statistics have shown that breast lift surgeries have grown in popularity by 70% over the past decade and a half.

The cosmetic surgery industry has experienced a surge in medical tourism to countries like India, Thailand, China, Mexico, Latin America, the Caribbean, Singapore, the Middle East and Pakistan. The temptation to travel to a tropical destination for an elective surgery lures patients who believe they’ll enjoy a grand holiday and return home with a fabulous new look.

Many women worry that after breast surgery they won’t be able to breastfeed, but often this isn’t the case. There are several factors that will determine whether or not you’ll be able to produce enough milk to nurse a baby - some women who’ve had breast surgery will need to supplement their baby’s diet with formula, while others will go on to produce enough milk to successfully breastfeed problem-free.

Women who enquire about breast implant surgery often worry that after their procedure they won’t be able to participate in the same exercises as before. It’s true that you’ll need to take at least two weeks off from rigorous activity post-op to let your body heal, but even during the recovery period it will be possible to do some light, low-impact exercises.

Don’t assume a surgeon is qualified – check their credentials! Plastic surgery is regulated by organisations like the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
